CaseFolio — Privacy Policy

CaseFolio is a browser extension that adds a legal-productivity layer on top of chatgpt.com and claude.ai, built for solo and small-firm attorneys. This policy explains exactly what data CaseFolio handles, where it lives, and what it never does. CaseFolio is developed and operated by Alvaro Leyva, an individual developer (“we”, “us”). The short version. Your conversations, cases, notes, and everything you organize in CaseFolio stay on your own device, inside your browser. We never receive them, never read them, and never sell them. The only data that leaves your browser is the minimum needed to process a purchase and validate your Pro license.

1. Data that stays local (never sent to us)

The core of CaseFolio is local-only. The following is stored exclusively in your browser via chrome.storage and IndexedDB and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party:

Captured conversations from ChatGPT and Claude, including their full text snapshots.
Cases / matters, folders, bookmarks, message labels, and tags.
Case journal entries, deadlines, notes, and time-tracking entries.
Custom prompts and templates, and your settings (PII guard, disclaimers, letterhead).
Client names you mark for conflict checks and PII detection.

This data is removed from your device when you uninstall the extension. We strongly recommend exporting anything you wish to keep beforehand. Because this data never reaches us, we cannot recover it for you.

2. Data we process for billing (Pro purchases only)

CaseFolio offers an optional paid “Pro” upgrade. If — and only if — you choose to purchase, the following limited data is processed off-device to take payment and grant your license:

Your email address and plan (monthly, annual, or lifetime), plus a generated license key and license status.
Payment details (card, billing info). These are entered directly into Stripe’s hosted checkout — we never see or store your card number.
Stripe identifiers (customer ID, subscription/session ID) used to link your payment to your license and to manage renewals or cancellations.

We do not process any billing data unless you initiate a purchase.

3. Service providers (sub-processors)

Provider	Purpose	Data involved
Stripe	Payment processing and subscription management.	Email, payment details, billing info. Governed by Stripe’s privacy policy.
Supabase	Stores your license record so Pro can be validated and recovered.	Email, license key, plan, status, Stripe IDs, period end. Hosted in the United States.
Cloudflare	Serves the static post-checkout page that activates your license.	Receives a checkout session ID in the URL to look up your key. No personal data stored.

4. What we never do

We do not run analytics, telemetry, advertising, or third-party trackers.
We do not read, collect, or transmit your AI conversations or case data.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone for marketing.
We do not store API keys or secrets outside your browser’s local storage.

5. Browser permissions and why we need them

Access to chatgpt.com and claude.ai — to inject CaseFolio’s interface and capture conversations locally when you choose to save them.
Access to *.supabase.co — to verify or recover your Pro license.
Storage — to keep your data on-device. Alarms / notifications — to periodically re-validate a paid license and notify you of expiry. Side panel — to show the CaseFolio workspace.

6. Data retention

Local data persists until you delete it or uninstall the extension. Your license record is retained while your purchase is valid and as required for tax and accounting purposes. You may request deletion of your license record by emailing us (see below); note that this may deactivate Pro on your devices.

7. Your rights and choices

Manage or cancel a subscription anytime via the Stripe customer portal (linked in Options).
Request access to, or deletion of, your license record by emailing alvarodev97@gmail.com.
Delete all local data instantly by uninstalling the extension.

8. Children

CaseFolio is a professional tool for attorneys and is not directed to children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes will be communicated in the extension or by email where appropriate.
